tries to explaining the importance of a close friendship or relationship between two people. So during the story Steinbach goes into detail about how George and Lennie get along and like each other. By the end of the story you know much about the way the two men's friendship is. So you can pretty much understand why George shoots Lennie in the end. It saves Lennie Much pain. Although it just about kills George himself.
