palm equaled 4 digits. A cubit was the length of the pharaoh's forearm. But because all people have different sized arms they changed it to a standard size. They measured with measuring sticks (yard stick) or knotted ropes. To make a pyramid a surveyor would use a groma to make sure the corners were square.
