1.For me, Barbie dolls evoke a feeling of a lifestyle that is rich, extravagant, and showy. The values that come to mind are materialism, consumerism, and the desire to show off to others. I assume that people who want a lifestyle like what Barbie promotes are shallow and empty. There is no internal substance, only what shows on the outside is of prime importance. kind of sad because it is about a poor girl who wants to get these dolls to fit in with other kids. At the end, when she says "who's to know" she is compromising with herself by saying, nobody will know the dolls are damaged because they have nice clothes on them; however, she would know that they are damaged, every time she smells them, or removes the shoe to see the burned doll's foot.
