In 1862, Bismarck became the Prussian chancellor, and he had huge plans for his country in the years to come. He intended to with unite Germany under Prussian rule. Bismarck thought that he could achieve these goals by controlling the people and making them believe in the same thing he did. the Franco-Prussian war gave Bismarck the support he needed to unify Germany. After the war he asked the German princess to name the Prussian King Emperor of Germany. On January 18, 1871, the king gained control of the German Empire. William I became Kaiser, and Bismarck became chancellor. This new Germany kept the same constitution with some small changes. Bismarck he done what he tried all these years for and put Prussia in total control on Germany.
