The character of Dr Watson in Conan Doyle's stories is extremely interesting and needs to be studied in great depth. Dr Watson is used to emphasis the main character Sherlock Holmes and the way in which it is done is very clever.

day and even today. There is an air of tension throughout the stories, which we see through the eyes of Watson. He emphasis the brilliant detective skills of Holmes by allowing the reader to see how effortlessly he solves the crimes with only the smallest detail to go on. The Sherlock Holmes stories have stood the test of time and this, in my opinion is mainly to do with the excellent narrative skills of Watson.
