This paper will look at the major reasons for the vulnerability to poverty. Has poverty increased over the past 20 years?
One of the great debates surrounding the social construction of need since the 19th Century is centered on the definition of poverty (Resources). Having resources is very important for the structure of social advantage; a lack of resources, it may be fair to say, could imply cumulative disadvantages in material circumstances, life style, and opportunities.

in some people being well above the poverty line, and others being far below the line. If a person lacks the necessary resources to compete in this free enterprise, they will surely become failures and live under the poverty line. In this type of economic system it could be argued that to become a race for dominance and survival of the fittest, this creates a major gap between the successful in society and the unsuccessful.
