Queen Victoria was born at Kensington Palace, London, on May 24th, 1819. She was the only child of Edward Duke of Kent. Her father died before Victoria was a year old and was brought up by her strict German mother. She was christened Alexandria Victoria and was not permitted to learn that she was to be queen until she was twelve years old. at home and imperial expansion abroad. National pride was connected with the name of Victoria. To the British people she became a symbol of strength, virtue, and modesty. By the end of her reign Queen Victoria's health started to decline. She became very weak, her brain was failing, and her life gently slipped away. She died on January 22nd, 1901. Her death was mourned by all of Britain. She was a great ruler of the people.
