The Extent to Which Act 4 of Christopher Marlowe's "Dr. Faustaus" is nothing More than Low Comedy.

Act Four of 'Doctor Faustus' is considered by many to be a lower form of entertainment than the other acts in the play, and some even go as far as to suggest that the whole act was not even written by Christopher Marlowe. After looking at all the evidence I have to say that, although there are some serious undertones of morals and significance, Act Four is predominantly low comedy. There are flashes of sincerity, but the overwhelming majority of the scene purely comedic. However, a lot of the comedy can be viewed as having a significant purpose to the views of Christopher Marlowe.
