Before my pen has gleaned my teeming brain,

<Tab/>The overall tone of the poem, in my opinion, is one of contempt. He feels that this disease is almost in need of reproach for taking such a gift as his intellect from the world. He also feels that it is a pity that he will never get to fall in love.
