Unification of Italy <Tab/>The unification of Italy also called the Risorgimento which means revival started in the 1840s. In 1848 fighting began in Austria to drive the Austrians out of the Italian peninsula. They did not succeed and Austria took control of the land. Prussia promised to give Venetia to Italy for if they won the war. <Tab/>Italy was defeated by the Austrians but since Prussia's win against Austria was so great they gave Venetia to Italy anyways. Soon after Italy gained control of Rome. Emmanuel moved the capitol from Florence to Rome after Prussia's victory in Rome. After this the unification of Italy was finally complete in 1871.
