In the end, the author shows that McKinley Hooker and his family backed down from the fight. Therefore, the author clearly represents the role of all black people in the Hooker family. He shows that they didn't receive equal treatment and that the external and internal struggles felt by the characters were conflicts that were a prelude to the climax in the restaurant.
